Julia M. Furlong

Julia, who joined Meredith Sunia Law in January 2023, is an experienced attorney who enjoys working with clients on both civil litigation and transactional law matters.

Julia began her legal career in Washington, D.C., as an associate in the financial restructuring practice of the global firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, where she also worked during law school as an Akin Gump Pro Bono Scholar. In addition to her billable caseload, Julia remained an active member of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee and worked on a variety of pro bono civil rights, education, and immigration matters.

In 2020, Julia moved to Pago Pago after accepting a position as an Assistant Attorney General with the Office of the Attorney General in American Samoa. In this role, she provided general counsel to various public agencies, departments, and offices, as well as represented the interests of the American Samoa Government in a diverse array of litigation matters. Julia subsequently was promoted to serve as Chief of the Civil Division for the Office of the Attorney

General.

Julia holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Juris Doctor from the University of Texas School of Law. Prior to law school, Julia taught elementary school as a Teach For America corps member. She is admitted to practice law in American Samoa, California (inactive), the District of Columbia and New York. In her free time, Julia loves to hike, snorkel, and swim around the islands.
