Aitofele B. Sunia

Aitofele B. Sunia or “Mino”, a founding partner of Meredith Sunia Law, is a local attorney having practiced in American Samoa for a decade primarily in, probate and estate matters, civil litigation, business formation, transactional and healthcare law.

Mino graduated from the William S. Richardson School of Law, University of Hawaii Manoa in 2012 and is licensed to practice in the State of Hawaii and American Samoa. Upon graduating from law school, he clerked for the Honorable Fa’au’uga To’oto’o with the Circuit Court of the State of Hawaii. In 2014, Mino moved back to American Samoa

and joined the Office of Office of the Attorney General as an Assistant Attorney General. He started as a prosecutor for mostly misdemeanors and was later recruited to work in the Civil Division where he provided general counsel to various governmental departments/agencies, as well as represented the interests of the American Samoa Government in a diverse array of litigation matters. In 2017, Mino was promoted to serve as Chief of the Civil Division for the Office of the Attorney General.

In 2017, Mino was hired by the Lyndon B. Johnson Tropical Medical Center as a Compliance Officer, and within the same year he transitioned to in-house counsel for the same institution.

Mino ventured into private practice in 2021 when he started Sunia Law which then merged into Meredith Sunia Law in May 2022 when he joined forces with his partner, Lornalei C. Meredith.

 

Mino is an active member of the American Samoa Bar Association where has served in various roles including President, Vice-President, and Treasurer. Mino holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and a Juris Doctor from the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Prior to law school, Mino taught English at Samoana High School, a local high school in American Samoa. Mino enjoys traveling, spending time with his family and friends, especially his dog, Povi.
